An early Merry Christmas to me! I got a new tablet and it’s a winner. I guess third time was the charm. Anyway, if you’re interested in my take on the HP Compaq 2710p, be sure to check out the full review. Now if only I could sell the M400 without someone on ebay trying to scam me.
I’m sure that many people love Ubuntu’s new-ish notification system. You know, the Growl-like popups that tell you that your network is offline every time your laptop wakes from sleep? Me, I’m not one of them.
Here’s a quick tip on how to disable it:
Open a terminal,
sudo chmod -x /usr/lib/notify-osd/notify-osd
Note that I’d expect new versions of notify-osd to “fix” the permissions on this file, so you might have to do this from time to time. However, between patches it will bring you some relief. Also note that disabling notify-osd also appears to interfere with the netbook-remix launcher. Pity.
